Description

The Great Basin Institute (GBI) and the National Park Service (NPS) will collaborate to develop a specialized research-based resource management intern program. Research Associates (RA) will have diverse and more specialized opportunities to participate on ongoing or new resource management related projects addressing significant resource management issues within the Resource Management and Visitor Services Division (RMVS) at Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE). Research Associates will gain skills associated with these activities as well as more in-depth knowledge of natural and cultural resources at LAKE. RAs will have a multifaceted and specialized research-based educational opportunity. Personnel from GBI and NPS will collaborate to develop and provide meaningful and appropriate opportunities as part of this task agreement. RAs will directly support and assist with resource management and visitor service related projects and activities addressing significant resource management issues including: resource/habitat assessment, habitat restoration; invasive species control; inventory and monitoring of biological and cultural resources; installation and monitoring of interpretive exhibits; public education and outreach, and social science research. NPS will provide training and educational information about the projects, why they are being performed and information on the natural and cultural resources of LAKE.
