Description

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service⿿s (USFWS or Service) National Youth Development Program is accepting project proposals from non-profit, state, and local government youth-serving organizations selected under Funding Opportunity F16AS00108. Selected recipients have a demonstrated interest and the capacity to work cooperatively with the USFWS to develop and administer projects focused on providing employment, educational, and public-service opportunities for U.S. citizens, legal residents, and veterans between 18 and 35 years. Projects funded under this program will be carried out at USFWS regional and field offices and on non-Federal lands in adjacent communities. Projects are developed based on needs identified by USFWS offices at the national, regional and local levels that will lead to the development of project scopes of work in consultation with the youth-serving organizations selected as program partners under Notice of Funding Opportunity F16AS00108. Funds under this award are to be used to place a Digital Media Ranger Intern and an Urban Wildlife Conservation Program Intern at FWS Headquarters, NWRS Visitor Services, 5275 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia. A. An Urban Wildlife Conservation Program Intern (Intern) will be physically located at FWS Headquarters (40 hours per week for 52 weeks). The Intern will provide research assistance and gather recommendations on potential and existing partnerships. B. The Intern will travel to one or two urban wildlife refuges to work alongside field staff and partners directly connecting with communities. C. The Intern will provide technical assistance on websites, webinars and other media. D. A Digital Media Ranger (DMR Intern) Intern will be physically located at FWS headquarters (40 hours per week for 52 weeks. E. The DMR Intern will plan, create and deliver social media and youth engagement campaigns on multiple platforms; coordinate with other digital media rangers on collecting, cataloging the ⿿best⿝ media produced on our over 560 wildlife refuges, and the DMR Intern will participate in migrating media to a new digital asset management system. F. The DMR Intern will travel to one or more national wildlife refuges to work alongside other digital media rangers, or assist with projects. G. The DMR Intern will gather and assemble video and photo albums to compliment web articles and orientate staff to new social media tools used by youth. This award is made through the Service⿿s CFDA (15.676) Youth Engagement, Education, and Employment under the authority of Powers and Duties of the Secretary of the Interior (16 U.S.C. 460 Sec. 460l (lower case ⿿L⿝)-1(d) and (f); Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended by the Fish and Wildlife Improvement Act of 1978 ( 16 U.S.C. 742a-754j-2, as amended; Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (16 U.S.C. 661); National Fish Hatchery System Volunteer Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-360); National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997; National Wildlife Refuge System Volunteer and Community Partnership Enhancement Act of 1998 ( 16 U.S.C. 742j); Public Lands Corps Act of 1993, as amended 2005 (16 U.S.C. 1721-1726, P.L. 109-154); Youth Conservation Corps Act of 1972 (P.L. 93-408).
