Lake Cascade State Park O&M
ArchivedBureau of Reclamation
Description
Cascade Dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation in 1948. Lake Cascade (reservoir), which is formed by Cascade Dam, is part of Reclamation’s Boise Project which is managed by the Snake River Area Office. This 44 square mile (28,300-acre) reservoir offers 86 miles of shoreline and is nestled in majestic Salmon River Mountains in Central Idaho at an elevation of 4,825 feet. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) manage the majority of the existing recreational facilities at Lake Cascade for Reclamation. These facilities, as managed by IDPR under Lease Agreement 9-07-10-L1534, are known as Lake Cascade State Park (LCSP). IDPR has been facilitating the operation and management (O&M) of LCSP successfully as Reclamation’s managing partner since 1999. An estimated 406,000 people visited the park in 2016. IDPR has recently made substantial investments, exceeding $1,000,000 per project, in the Ridgeview, Big Sage/Sage Bluff and Poison Creek Campgrounds. These sites are now suited to the larger, more modern RVs many campers are using. The condition of the seventeen park units in LCSP has steadily improved over the term of IDPR’s management.O&M activities include, but are not limited to, fee collection; public contact to educate, inform and enforce park regulations; security services; campground, boat ramp and day use area management; trash collection; sanitation services; water testing; road, facility and trail cleaning, brush removal, maintenance and repair; pest and weed control; and interpretative sign installation and maintenance. This Agreement will provide cost-share funds for the continued support of O&M activities at LCSP. The current management agreement for LCSP (No. 9-07-10-L1534) expires on September 30, 2022 and will coincide with the expiration of this grant agreement.
