Description

The objective of this project is to improve Endangered Species Act (ESA)-listed salmonid productivity in the mainstem Methow River primarily between the towns of Winthrop and Twisp, WA (M2 Reach). Flow reductions will be made possible by increasing system efficiencies as existing earthen canals are piped and canal management practices are modified with upgraded efficiency and technology. In addition, the project goal is to consolidate the Barkley and MVID diversions to reduce maintenance impacts and share the already completed east side diversion. This will be accomplished by moving the Barkley point of diversion (POD) downstream approximately 4 miles. This project will also reduce harm and mortality to listed fish species take by moving the Barkley diversion downstream. Pumping water from below the MVID diversion into the historic Barkley ditch which will be piped for Barkley. By moving/modifying the Barkley Diversion, Bear Creek, which is currently dumped into the Barkley Canal, will be reconnected to the Methow River.
