Bureau of Democracy Human Rights and Labor

Description

DRL requests proposals for programs that increase citizens' access to objective information. The program will support independent journalists, citizen journalists, and media outlets to ensure the survival and security of independent media sources and increase their contributions to a rights-respecting society. The program will also encourage collaboration among journalists, civil society organizations, and media advocacy groups. Program approaches may include, but are not limited to: direct assistance, including engaging independent journalists on practices and providing skills for dealing with digital and physical security; legal framework analysis; promoting transparency through public disclosure campaigns and monitoring projects; and small grants and tools to help independent local media engage more effectively with their audiences on topics that are important to the community.
