PNG Biodiversity Program
ClosedPhilippines USAID-Manila
Description
This is a new program aimed at strengthening the management of environmental resources in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to promote conservation of the country’s exceptional biodiversity and, in the process, enhance the resilience of its people. The program will contribute to USAID’s Results Framework for the Pacific Islands, particularly Intermediate Result 2: Environmental Resilience of Papua New Guinea Strengthened (See Annex 1). The ultimate goal of the program is to reduce significant threats to key biodiversity hotspots in PNG by supporting communities in managing their customary lands. To achieve this goal, the new program will work at both national and local levels to develop the systems and capacities needed to provide communities with the legal, technical, and financial resources required to achieve the sustainable management of natural resources in their customary lands and waters. Subject to availability of funds, USAID anticipates that this activity or activities will be implemented over a period of 5 (five) years.
