Description

Master Agreement P15AC00009 is entered into by and between the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa (CCMNIA). The objective of this agreement is to engage youth in natural resource management activities maintaining Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (APIS) trails and helping to protect the park’s natural resources. This is a modification to add additional funding to an existing Task Agreement P14AC00836. CCMNIA youth will assist NPS with daily duties that result in youth gaining valuable skills to assist towards careers in the conservation/ resource management field. Youth also have the opportunity to camp and work in a backcountry setting and gain skills and knowledge with hand tools. The project motivates youth participants to become involved in the natural resource protection of their communities and beyond and provides opportunities for youth to as a team and learn work skills. The repairs to the APIS trails will provide the public with a safe trail for use. The Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa (CCMNIA) crew will work with NPS staff to install a floating boardwalk on Long Island to provide a trail along a historic route that connects two light station towers. As time allows, the CCMNIA will also assist in trail maintenance throughout the park.
