Cooperative Agreement Number P17AC00031 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and The Student Conservation Association (Recipient), for the purpose of building the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land through service opportunities, outdoor skills, and leadership training. This is a modification to add additional funding to an existing task agreement P17AC00840. The interns will work alongside interpretative rangers and education specialists who will offer the interns with valuable training including interpretative and facilitated dialogue best practices and techniques. The programs developed will engage recipients, partners, communities and/or visitors in a shared environmental stewardship. The Recipient will provide two qualified youth interns to assist Jefferson National Expansion Memorial with developing and presenting activity-based education programming and resources at the Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse related to the Junior Ranger, Education, and Public Programs geared towards the park themes and resource stewardship, outreach community programs and educator workshops. This will provide the interns with hands-on experience outside the classroom on interpretative projects and gain a better understanding and appreciation of the NPS “parks in their own backyard” fostering a sense of life-long stewardship.
