Description

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research that will develop open source standards to help unify automated solutions for species classification of acoustic recordings of bat echolocations. The objectives for developing these standards include: (1) maximize the probability that an individual acoustic recording is classified to the correct species (or species group), while minimizing false-positive error rates, (2) eliminate the need for manual-vetting (verification) of results from autoclassification (autoID) software, and (3) reduce variation, bias, and uncertainty in species classification, allowing for seamless integration and reliable interpretation of acoustic data collected across broad geographic extents and by multiple contributors.
