Description

The Western Ecological Research Center, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding opportunity to a Partern of the Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU) Program. The project is titled ⿿⿿Applied Ecology of Greater Sage-Grouse and Sagebrush Ecosystems Across Local and Regional Scales⿝. This USGS-funded project will coordinate closely with multiple and inter-related ongoing projects at the Western Ecological Research Center (WERC). These studies include quantification of wildfire and anthropogenic (primarily energy development) direct and indirect effects of sage-grouse population dynamics, factors influencing distribution and abundance of common ravens (a potentially significant predator of sage-grouse nests, mapping of sage-grouse habitat suitability and development of spatially-explicit conservation planning tools, and strategies aimed at augmentation and sage-grouse (and other prairie grouse) populations through translocations. Many of these studies represent opportunities for graduate student research, and are focused in Nevada and California, the Great Basin, and across the range of the species.
