This announcement is not a request for applications. The objective of this Agreement is to establish a Canoemobile Hub and programming (floating classroom) for Southern Lake Michigan, centered at/near Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (INDU) with Wilderness Inquiry, Inc. This will provide public, especially underserved communities, with education about the Great Lakes Ecosystems, how nature works, and instructions on water safety and a connection to outdoor recreation. Creating the Southern Lake Michigan Canoemobile Hub, through the Wilderness Inquiry Canoemobile program increases public health and safety training and creates educational opportunities to learn about natural resources and stewardship across the Lake Michigan basin. The Canoemobile hub will continue to create partnerships on local rivers and lakes increases public access to natural amenities in their own communities, providing great use local of public lands. This introduction to our waterways encourages involvement in outdoor recreation activities while creating knowledgeable stewards for our public lands. The canoes Wilderness Inquiry uses are a propitiatory design which they build at their Minneapolis headquarters with a design which makes the canoes stable and therefore safer for the public. It is necessary for the Canoemobile program to provide the utmost safety for the public attending the “floating classrooms” near INDU. Wilderness Inquiry has been successfully providing programs that promote water safety, environmental stewardships and recreation to diverse communities in the southern Lake Michigan basin for several years.
