Provide Internship Opportunities at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Description
This is not a request for applications. This is a Notice of Intent to Award under a current Cooperative Agreement with Santa Monica Mountains Fund. This program will implement an Internship program through SMMF that provides in-depth work training opportunities in all aspects of park planning and management. Objectives are to support a 30-40 interns serving 3-4 month internships, delivering better than 8 Full Time Equivalents in labor support to all branches of park operations. This project provides public purpose when Interns gain experience and develop career skills in all areas of park management, including natural and cultural resource management, interpretation, trails and facilities management, law enforcement, park planning. In addition to NPS land, work will be performed on, and benefit, state and local parklands within and surrounding the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Participants, who we be recruited locally and nationally, will gain experience and skills that they can bring back to their communities and utilize in their future careers. Improvements in trails and facilities and interpretive program delivery resulting from work projects will increase public access and enjoyment of both federal and non-federal parklands in the recreation area. These Internships provide an improved visitor experience and better quality customer service to the public
