Description

The US Geological Survey, John Wesley Powell Center for Analysis and Synthesis, is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to develop two globally extensive databases, the first of time series of discharge and its potential storage controls at scales ranging from headwater basins to channel networks, and the second of critical storage timescales for focal watersheds and river basins that will identify the interaction strength between each storage control and discharge. The datasets will be used to increase understanding of water storage within catchments and river networks in order to develop robust predictive river flow models. Development of the databases will require data analyses strategies drawn from information theory, incorporation of data streams from sensor networks and remote sensing products, and continental-scale models.
