Description

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in the Madison, Wisconsin area. The city of Madison is part of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and watershed management plan for total phosphorus (TP) in the Rock River Basin (3,800 mi2). Most of the basinâ¿¿s surface waters are exposed to runoff pollution from both agricultural and urban land uses. Several lakes, rivers, and streams in the Rock River Basin are impaired by excessive phosphorus and sediment concentrations, which lead to nuisance algae growth, oxygen depletion, reduced submerged aquatic vegetation, water clarity problems, and degraded habitat.
