ArchivedU.S. Mission to India
Description
The REPS Office of the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section seeks proposals for a program entitled “Hands on the Future: A Making and Computer Coding Skill-building Program for Women.” This program will consist of a needs assessment of the making and computer coding ecosystems of New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai, a series of no-cost training workshops in those cities, and mentoring for young Indian women between the ages of 18-23 with demonstrated prior interest in STEM fields. The grantee will: 1. Produce a needs assessment report of the making/computer coding ecosystems in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai, determining where there are free/low-cost making/computer coding skills development training gaps for the target audience. 2. Select approximately 30 participants in each city, as well as a minimum of one course facilitator per city, develop, and execute a series of 4 bespoke intensive classes at American Centers in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai to fill the ecosystem gaps for the target audience using existing open-source curricula/resources. 3. Recruit a minimum of 3 women working in STEM (Local U.S. Mission staff or experts) to serve as mentors to each class (in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai). Collaborate with PAS’ Nexus Start-up Hub to offer a fifth and final class in each city to the participants on the theme of transforming ideas/prototypes into products/services.
