Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Great Lakes Science Center, is offering a funding opportunity for research to improve understanding of how the trophic niche of Lake Huron planktivores varies following the changing in the zooplankton community over the past decade. Using the diets of planktivores collected during the 2017 sampling year, the objectives of the work are to 1) conduct diet analyses of cisco, bloater, and rainbow smelt, and 2) determine degree of diet overlap and explain variation in diets based on spatial, temporal, and fish size differences. This research supports the Lake Partnership Priorities to improve understanding of energy flow (nutrient cycling) in Lake Huron, including linkages between lower and upper food webs.
