The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to provide technical expertise in flume design for experimental research in ecohydraulics and biomechanics of endangered sturgeon This opportunity is for research to develop a new research facility to support investigation of the early life stages of pallid sturgeon and other aquatic organisms. The design requirements of the flume are highly specialized resulting from the complex and unknown attributes of early-life stage pallid sturgeon, and also the interaction between the fragile larval fish and the flumes mechanical and structural elements. The design process must include close research-type collaboration between USGS researchers and facility designers. The objective of this project is to evaluate design strategies and instrumentation for a research flume specifically designed to support research of early-life stage pallid sturgeon at the CERC.
