Description

Provides local stakeholders an opportunity to continue to provide support for the Niobrara National Scenic River as provided for in the 1991 legislation creating Niobrara National Scenic River. All activities are to either care for the resources within the boundary, or provide for visitor services. Assure continued local support for NPS goals along with local goals interests. The NPS is the primary source of funding for the Council. The council would cease to exist without NPS funding. As per the Cooperative Agreement, the Niobrara Council continually: leads the effort to address infrastructure needs; monitors needs for maintaining public roads and bridges essential to the river corridor; monitors and maintains public restrooms; makes arrangements for conducting summer visitor counts; participate in efforts to protect, enhance and restore ORV's; involved in mitigation and control of noxious and invasive species in the river corridor; partner with the Middle Niobrara Weed Awareness Group (MNWAG); engage in cooperative efforts to maintain stream gage at Sparks; conduct and participate in educational efforts directed at protecting, enhancing and restoring the ORV's in partnership with the National Park Service; implement educational programs to all agesregarding ORV's with summer and non-summer options; and continue to be a local source of information for conservation easements.
