Description
Project Goals ¿ The project goal is to maintain a partnership program with MSU to immerse up to 4 student interns in cultural resource and museum collection stewardship at Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS through mentorship, team participation, hands on tasks, and resource care and management. Not only will the project teach resource stewardship, but also will provide the park with much needed assistance with collections, and help direct future management. B. Project Objectives ¿ Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS curator and the MSU Principle Investigator will work together to select up to 4 student interns. The curator will mentor the interns onsite and will incorporate them into the resource team to assist with inventory and cleaning of all objects on display, as well as other collection projects including conservation, housekeeping, moving of collections, and other tasks as necessary. Roughly 19,000 objects in the collections storage building will need to be boxed and moved from current storage to make way for new compact shelving units, which all interns will assist with. If time permits, interns will also help unpack once shelves are installed. One intern will also assist by updating the 2003 National Register Registration Form on the Grant-Kohrs Ranch/Warren Ranch district with the results of research and analysis conducted after the form was signed. All of these activities, done under the curator¿s supervision, are needed to continue the over 40 year professional care of the collections, giving the interns a great opportunity to experience the many facets of collection preservation. The information and data generated by the student intern during the inventory will be used to facilitate resource stewardship at Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS and will be used to inform park visitors, students, and staff
