Description
The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to analyze satellite imagery for beaver pond complexes on National Park lands and provide a list of representative beaver ponds in Noatak National Preserve, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Kobuk Valley National Park, and Bering Land Bridge National Preserve. The inventory will include categories that distinguish the different types of beaver ponds (e.g. stream, oxbow, lake outlet, presence of trees, shrub taxa, age of the dam, and other relevant geographic attributes). A subset of the beaver pond complexes will be targeted for sampling during the summer field season and require orthoimagery and digital elevation models of the beaver pond complexes along with monitoring beaver behavior and other seasonal events (e.g. spring snowmelt, flooding, fall freeze-up). This is a three-year project.
