U.S. Mission to India

Description

To train 150 young women and men across the three states and ensure that they understand the rights guaranteed under the Indian constitution as well as the shared tradition of constitutional democracy in the United States and India and facilitate them to emerge as proactive, conscious community leaders. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad (PAS Hyderabad) seeks proposals for a project entitled “Civic Engagement and Constitutional Rights: Comparing the U.S. and Indian Constitutions.” PAS Hyderabad supports initiatives that develop the skills of Indian youth through leadership training and experiential learning while providing opportunities to connect American experts with Indian audiences. These projects, besides improving institutional linkages between American and Indian organizations, empower local youth to emerge as well-informed and socially-invested citizen-leaders. As the world’s oldest and largest democracies, the governments and societies of the United States and India are shaped by constitutions that underscore democratic values and fundamental rights as outlined in the American Bill of Rights and Article 19 of the Indian Constitution. The project proposed as part of this grant program will showcase the respective constitutions of the United States and India, underscoring democratic guarantees of a citizen’s right to life, freedom, property, and speech in our societies.
