This announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service's intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities without competition with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. The objectives of the workshops is to: increase outreach relevancy, especially to underserved youth populations, to Lincoln Home National Historic Site (LIHO); participants will gain a deeper understanding of untold stories in history; students will be presented with stories of challenges faced by people in the past to gain inspiration for challenges they face today. In addition, they will be encouraged by these stories to make a different in their neighborhood, schools, and larger communities; and students will gain an appreciation of the historic sites and museums as places as touchstones of history and places of inspiration for challenges they face. The public purpose is to provide youth mentors in Illinois with an opportunity to become familiar with the story of freedom in Illinois and allow for youth to develop skillsets such as public speaking, leadership and working with others; which would be used as they develop into productive adults and contribute to the greater society. The Recipient has unique expertise in the broader story of African American life and history throughout the US. They also have the capacity and partnerships to expand and reach a much diverse audience through the knowledge and expertise of African American history that would allow for more diverse stories to be told through Lincoln Home NHS. Specific qualification include expertise knowledge on the history of African American Life and History throughout the US. Access to broad diversity of trainers and speakers that would provide relevant experience to youth mentors and students who will be in the workshop and training sessions.
