THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service’s intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities: This project renews and expands a partnership among Historic Annapolis, the City of Annapolis, and the National Park Service to present Annapolis City Dock as a Chesapeake Gateway. Historic Annapolis, Inc. (Historic Annapolis or HA) and the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office (NPS Chesapeake or CHBA) will work together through this Task Agreement to enhance Annapolis as a Chesapeake Bay Gateway, with the objectives of better interpreting and connecting citizens and visitors with the City of Annapolis’s rich Chesapeake maritime heritage, and enhancing public access to authentic cultural and natural resources and the Bay. The focus of this project is four-fold: 1. Identify opportunities and programs through a consensus-building outreach effort among stakeholders within the Annapolis community; 2. Prepare an Implementation Strategy, informed by public outreach, to ensure that there is a coordinated and cohesive action plan for City Dock. The strategy must emphasize direct access to the Chesapeake Bay for water-based experiences, enhance connections among contributing sites and resources, and address the public’s need for essential services and information at City Dock; 3. Develop and craft a feasibility study for the adaptive reuse of the Burtis House and lot. This study must fully consider the building’s historic context (esp. the adjacent wharf area) and opportunities for its repurposing to address the public’s need for essential services, information and recreational programming, and its appropriateness to serve as the hub for activity on the land and in the water at City Dock; and, 4. To explore historic maritime interpretive and educational opportunities to better connect visitors and residents alike with Annapolis’s maritime culture and history.
