Description

This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service's intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities without competition. Michigan State University is a member of the Great Lakes Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit. The objectives of the project are to conduct a study and submit a report that identifies existing communities of species, an their associated ecosystems within Sand Point coastal wetland. The report will identify risks to these ecosystems associated with wetland restoration initiatives. It will also include recommendations for protecting the ecosystems during restoration activities. Information obtained will be added to the database of the Sand Point wetland, improving management of the wetlands. Information will also be used for interpretative education to the public on coastal wetlands. The public purpose is to promote the understanding of the coastal wetland ecosystem and engage partners in shared environmental stewardship. Coastal wetlands are rare, and the project will provide interpretative education to the public on coastal wetlands.
