Description
The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in developing a modeling framework that links wildfire probability in the Hawaiian Islands to climate, land cover, and ignition density (driven by population) using a spatially explicit fire history map spanning several years. Research Objectives: 1) Develop a spatially explicit database of large fire (>20 ha) perimeters spanning several years in the main Hawaiian Islands. 2) Use this fire occurrence database to develop a statewide model of fire risk that covers the main Hawaiian Islands using climate (rainfall, temperature), land cover, and population density as predictor variables.
