Description

Interns are given a range of office- and field-based work assignments as well as helpful supervision and mentoring. The Interns will work with GIS and an Access database as well as with paper and electronic files. Mentoring tasks may include research assistance in conducting invasive plant ranking, evaluating tools for mobile data collection, collecting data and/or performing data analysis, contributing to the development of reports, and assisting in the development of communication materials. Field activities may include strenuous physical activity under adverse conditions (high heat, high humidity, and biting insects).In addition, the Interns will be trained on invasive plants and mid-Atlantic ecology. The Interns will gain professional experience controlling invasive plants in national parks. This will support the invasive plant program for the National Capital Region. Interns are encouraged to attend NPS-sponsored trainings and to take part in the activities of other natural resource programs. NPS will assist the Cooperator with the selection of Interns. Selection factors for the Interns will be determined together. In addition, this modification adds 4 additional intern positions that will focus on projects such as site prioritization, Best Management Practices, field work, and document preparations. The NonFederal Match of 25% is required by the authorizing legislation16 USC CHAPTER 37, SUBCHAPTER II: PUBLIC LANDS CORPS.
