Description

This announcement is to provide public notice of the NPS's intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities without competition to Michigan Technological University a member of the Great Lakes Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit. This assessment will review and summarize existing ethnographic data for people and resources associated with the Keweenaw National Historical Park (KEWE) (may also include Isle Royal National Park); will address KEWE's ethnographic resources by developing baseline information, capturing and transferring knowledge, improving geographic information systems, and improving interpretation of cultural history and contemporary cultural significance of KEWE. A report will be produced identifying communities traditionally associated with KEWE, summarizing and synthesizing existing ethnographic information on the present and recent cultural systems of those communities and as it related to copper, the copper country, and copper mining.
