Description
U.S. Geological Survey¿s (USGS) Powell Center, is offering a funding opportunity for research on ¿Forecasting Mosquito Phenology in a Shifting Climate: Synthesizing Continental-scale Monitoring Data¿ The goals of this project will be (1) assemble various mosquito datasets from across the United States into a single national-scale data resource; (2) develop appropriate mosquito phenometrics (e.g. estimates of emergence timing, peak timing, duration) based on periodic count data; (3) develop predictive models of seasonality of mosquito species representative of specific life-history strategies and (4) implement these models to generate real-time and short-term forecasts of mosquito activity as well as predictions of future changes in seasonal patterns of mosquito activity.
