Description

The position of a Deputy Director continues to be difficult and is compounded responding to the rise of mass incarceration, an aging prison population, coupled with the intricate operational issues that face the nation’s prisons, jails and community corrections facilities. Additionally, they are responsible for managing these facilities in a manner that ensures public safety, the safety of staff and inmates, and accountability with taxpayer dollars. Many are tasked leading workplaces whose missions have changed dramatically, and now include dealing with reduced budgets, limited resources, aging infrastructures, specialized populations, significant healthcare and mental health issues, overcrowding, understaffing, problems with recruitment and retention, and effectively meeting the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
