Description

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on the future effects of climate and land-use change on waterfowl population dynamics, as they effect waterfowl harvest management. Building on previous work that linked climate projections to demographics of mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) in the midcontinent population (Zhao et al. 2016, 2018, 2019), seek forecasts of habitat conditions in the Prairie Pothole region for the next century. In addition, seek the identification of climate variables that have a predictive value for the dynamics of Atlantic Population Canada geese and forecasts thereof. This research will be integrated with harvest management models being developed at PWRC to provide guidance to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service about the value of time-dependent harvest strategies.
