This SBIR Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to support small businesses to develop and test service-ready, commercially viable tools and technologies for suicide prevention, including technologies that can be used to advance training, quality monitoring, a?nd quality improvement efforts and ultimately improve the availability of evidence-based suicide prevention services. Specifically, this initiative encourages research on the effectiveness-implementation continuum aimed at (1) developing and testing the effectiveness of optimized, service-ready suicide prevention tools for identification, prevention, and treatment of individuals at risk for suicide; and (2) testing strategies to improve adoption, implementation fidelity, and sustained use of these tools, guided by an implementation science framework. Given the focus on practice-ready accessible resources and products that could be readily integrated into practice, NIMH encourages the use of technology and other design features that make the tools scalable and robust against implementation drift, and a deployment-focused approach that takes into account the perspectives of key stakeholders (e.g., service users, providers, administrators) and system-level factors, such as workforce capacity that influence potential integration of tools into clinical workflows.
