National Institute of Corrections

Description

Through this cooperative agreement, NIC seeks to 1) provide chief jail inspectors of state and state jail-related organizations a forum to share ideas and information, and 2) research and develop content update and revision recommendations for NIC’s Jail Inspector Training Program curriculum.NIC has historically provided The Chief State Jail Inspector Network a forum to share ideas, information, and experiences. NIC hosted an annual, two day network meeting at the National Corrections Academy in Aurora, Colorado. The average attendance was 20-25 members. The meetings consisted of agency updates, guided discussions, and guest speaker presentations. In order to continue to provide this valuable meeting space for the network under the current limitations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, NIC will organize and host virtual network meetings. The current challenges faced by state inspection agencies and the facilities under their purview are significant. Most chief inspectors face the same challenges, and addressing them together is better. While there is considerable relational and professional value in networking in person, any medium that provides an opportunity for the network to share and gather information to address their most pressing issues is immeasurably better than not meeting at all
