Cooperative Agreement for CESU with Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit
ClosedGeological Survey
Description
The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for experiential communication of scientific forecasts for infrequent events. Experiential and interactive communications are shown to be effective in the social science research literature. When hazard forecasts are uncommon (unlike the weather forecast) decision-makers are often not be prepared or trained to use the information. Such situations present when aftershock forecasts are issued following a large earthquake when risks are significantly elevated.
