Project Background Information: The Green Mountain Aspen Regeneration project involves removal of encroaching conifers to stimulate aspen re-growth and regeneration. The project requires the use of chain saws to remove conifers and a crew to assist with piling of downed material. The Willow Creek riparian fence involves the demolition, relocation, and construction of approximately ½ mile of “buck and pole” fencing. The purpose of this project is to protect and improve riparian habitat along the Willow Creek drainage near South Pass City in Southwestern Wyoming. The project requires dispersing fencing materials on site; assisting with the actual fence construction; and cleaning up both sites after the work is complete. Additionally, BLM would be training, developing and educating participants in the principles and practices of resource management and conservation. Benefits: The project provides a safe, educational and valuable job training opportunity, development of programs for educational purposes as well as contributing to the public welfare. Statement of Joint Objectives/Project Management Plan: Assist the BLM with fencing projects across the Lander Field Office boundary. This assistance will involve moderate to heavy physical labor and will require applicant to be able to use (but not limited to) the following tools: 1) hammer, 2) post hole digger, 3) chainsaw, and 4) tamping bar. Completed projects will be aprox. 2 weeks of assistance on fence installation/conifer removal projects. Applicants will receive the benefit of educating their participants/students in the physical labor realm of land management; as well as garnering a feeling of ownership in BLM managed public lands. BLM employees will also provide onsite education to participants in the form of discussions, presentations, and teachable moments.
