Project Background Information: A need has been identified to determine which stone circles, cairns, and trails in the Clarks Fork Canyon vicinity are associated with the Blackfeet Tribe and to update information on previously identified sites within the area. Information gained will allow for increased land management ability and the data obtained will also allow for increased coordination with the Tribe in the management area.Project Objective: This agreement will facilitate the exchange of cultural resource data and information to include: relevance of the features and the locality to the Tribal culture of the Blackfeet Tribe. The results will be provided to the BLM in a narrative report including maps, drawings, and photographs as appropriate. The project should also produce Tribal names and traditional associations for prominent topographic features and landforms in the area, survey, inventory and mapping of traditional localities and provide this information to the Wyoming Cultural Records Information System (WYCRIS). This information will be used in developing up-to-date databases and baseline information to be available to for future use by researchers and land managers. Benefits: This cooperative venture between the BLM and the successful applicant will provide for more effective use of available technical systems such as remote sensing, GIS, ortho-photo quads, and WYCRIS; and resources by the public, government agencies and other interested parties. The resulting data, information, and maps that are obtained will ensure that cultural resource information is developed and maintained and made available as appropriate. Ultimately, management of public lands will be more efficient. The data obtained will provide guidance for the management of traditional localities on all lands, be they Federal, state or private. Knowing the locations of these traditional localities will allow managers to plan future developments around these areas to minimize impacts.Statement of Joint Objectives/Project Management Plan: The purpose of this cooperative agreement between the Bureau of land management (BLM) and the successful applicant, is to work cooperatively in the documentation of Blackfeet Tribal interests on public lands in the Clarks Fork Canyon Area, in Wyoming.
