Description

The Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State Office, intends to award a cooperative agreement with the University of Wyoming to investigate the nature of prehistoric and historic aboriginal antelope trapping and to learn the role of antelope trap ceremonial sites in the traditional culture of Plains Indian tribes. The investigation will record the physical remains of the trap and compare them with other know trap structures. The University of Wyoming is the preeminent educational institution in North America that specializes in investigating aboriginal game trapping methods and outcomes. This investigation will add unique information to existing knowledge about game trapping that University investigators have previously published for the benefit of the public. The anticipated length of the project is a three year period. The BLM will consider continued funding for the project upon (a) the recipient showing progress satisfactory to the BLM toward program goals and the determination by the BLM that continuation of the program would be in the best interest of the Government or (b) the availability of funds. The total project period for this award will not exceed 36 months.
