Description

-Purpose. This FOA issued by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), the National Cancer Institute, and the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), encourages research grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to carry out basic and/or preclinical research on CAM using cells, cell lines, tissues, cadavers, or animal model systems with an aim to understand the mechanisms of action of a CAM modality. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-07-007, that encourages applications under the R01 mechanism (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-07-007.html).-Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism, numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
