Purpose: The purpose of the NIAID Research Scholar Development Award (RSDA) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented NIH-supported independent investigators that will address the health needs of the Nation. The NIAID RSDA is specifically designed to facilitate the transition from a postdoctoral research position to an independent research position. Mechanism of Support: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the NIH Career Transition Award (K22) mechanism. Applications for the NIAID RSDA are submitted in two phases. In Phase 1, the scientific merit is peer-reviewed. If the application receives a fundable score, the candidate must submit Phase 2 of the application from the new sponsoring institution, within one year. Funding will begin when the Phase 2 is approved by NIAID.

• For-profit organizations other than small businesses
• Small businesses
