The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJsolicits applications to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy andpractice.NIJ seeks applications for research and development leading to the adoption intopractice by law enforcement and corrections agencies of technologies and devicesproviding:• Improved means to confirm an individual's identity.• Improved situational awareness.• Improved means to locate and track cooperative or noncooperative individuals.• Improved data analysis tools.• Improved means to detect contraband.
