The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) was instituted in 1972 to producenational estimates of the levels and rates of crimes of violence and theft, including crimenot reported to police departments. The crime screening protocol is one of the most important components of the NCVS methodology. The crime screening questions now used were implemented in 1992 after an extensive redesign effort. The objective of this project is to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the current andpre-redesign crime screening questions. This analysis will inform future questionnaireredesign efforts by providing an understanding of how the survey’s crime screeningprocess has operated. Applications must be submitted through OJP’s online Grants Management System (GMS). To access the system, go tohttps://grants.ojp.usdoj.gov.
