Description

Our objective is to provide assistance in preventing, managing, and controlling aquatic invasive species within the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Southwest Region (TX, OK, NM, & AZ). This includes a process to fund State Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Management Plans officially approved by the Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force and authorized by the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act of 1990. It may also include a process to fund cooperative agreements with institutions of higher education who partner with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in coordinating the prevention, management, and control of aquatic invasive species. However, there is no regularly set-aside amount of funding to do so. Current program funding is considerably limited and well below the estimated total program funding listed elsewhere in this announcement. Current funding priorities include, first, state aquatic invasive species management plan implementation, and then, if additional funding is available, prevention programs for only the most severe aquatic invaders threatening Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, and/or New Mexico. Although new projects may be considered, priority will be given to existing, successful, long-term collaborative projects. This text serves as the full announcement.
