Description

The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), announces the availability of USD $1.6 million to be awarded by Cooperative Agreement to one or more qualifying organizations to implement a demonstration project that provides worker rights, vocational, and entrepreneurial training to unemployed Pakistanis living in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), and Baluchistan. The three-year project will serve unemployed participants facing significant barriers to employment. Because this group also generally lacks experience working in the formal sector, they may not be aware of the rights to which they are entitled under federal and provincial laws. Therefore, participants provided with vocational training will also receive integrated worker rights training in order to ensure that they are able to fully benefit from their new skills and professions. Similarly, new entrepreneurs may become employers for the first time and will also receive worker rights training to understand their responsibilities as employers.ILAB is authorized to award and administer this program by the Department of Labor Appropriations Act, 2009, P. L. 111-08, 123 Stat. 524 (2009). The Cooperative Agreement awarded under this initiative will be managed by ILAB’s Office of Trade and Labor Affairs.
