Description
The objective of this research project is To estimate the probability of converting vacant / agricultural land to a higher (developed) land use and develop equations for model use. To apply econometric techniques in the form of a qualitative response regression to estimate the static probability of land use change and to couple this initial probability of land use change with a dynamic conditional probability approach such as Markov Chains (e.g., time of first passage to a developed state) to estimate the temporal change in the probability of land use change. To incorporate the impact of an expansion of the urban development boundary, repeat sales, and other amenities on the probability of land conversion. This will benefit the public by giving local decision makers a model for viewing land development decisions.
