Purpose. This FOA invites current Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) awardees to propose developments in their environments that will sustain and advance clinical and translational science as a distinct discipline. NIH resources will give institutions flexibility to develop their existing configuration, resources and talent to maximize the safety, efficiency, quality and speed of clinical and translational research. The academic home for clinical and translational science can be a center, department, or institute (C/D/I), and is expected to include faculty who conduct original research, develop graduate and postgraduate training curricula and lead programs that integrate clinical and translational science across multiple departments, schools, research institutes and hospitals. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Specialized Center Cooperative Agreements (U54) mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The total funds available for the new awards are approximately $116 million. Up to 12 awards are anticipated from this solicitation. The NIH intends to issue solicitations for new and competing renewals of CTSAs annually. Awards will vary in size due to the prior consolidation of multiple programs at the applicant institution(s) into the CTSA program proposal. The annual total costs that may be requested have been communicated with potential applicants and may be verified by contacting NCRR Program Staff.
