Description

Purpose. The purpose of this limited competition is to continue participant treatment and follow-up by the Clinical Centers (recruiting sites) in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Urological Symptoms (CAMUS) Study. The CAMUS is a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial of phytotherapy (saw palmetto) in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LLUTS)/benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). A total of 370 men have been randomized into the study and are currently being treated and followed at 11 Clinical Centers. This limited competition will also permit the Data Coordinating Center to continue data collection for the trial, close-out the study in an orderly fashion and to conduct final data analysis. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the cooperative agreement (U01) grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIDDK intends to commit approximately $600,000 in FY 2010 to make 12 awards (11 Clinical Centers and 1 Data Coordinating Center award). The NIDDK intends to make a single award of up to $200,000 to the Data Coordinating Center in Fiscal Year 2011.
