Description

Purpose. There is a significant public health need to improve the outcome of treatments of substance use disorders (SUDs). SUDs are often associated with cognitive changes that may negatively impact drug abuse treatment outcomes. The purpose of this FOA is to solicit exploratory/developmental research project applications that design and/or develop cognitive remediation strategies that enhance the outcome of SUD treatments. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R21 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-DA-10-006, that solicits applications under the R01 mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIDA intends to commit approximately $3,000,000 in total costs (Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F and A) costs) in FY 2010 to fund 5 to 6 new grants in response to this FOA and the parallel FOA RFA-DA-10-006.
