Description

The purpose of the agreement is to provide financial assistance to locate, capture, fit with GPS radio collars, collect tissue samples and data from a minimum of 5 mountain lions on the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. Monitor them for the next 1-2 years depending on the collar battery life, either re-collar or retrieve the dropped-off collars. Analyze, interpret and make recommendations on the data received concerning cougar population parameters and the dynamics of cougars at a landscape scale so CMR can determine if this information can be used to develop a “hunt package” to be submitted for approval to initiate a hunting season on cougars. The service has the responsibility to address this request which has been raised from the public during our Comprehensive Conservation Planning (CCP) process.
