Description

The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to provide national leadership on implementation of sustainable statewide newborn hearing screening and intervention programs through resource development, education and training, policy initiatives, evidence-based data collection, and collaborative efforts with federal and non-federal partners. Specific focus will be on reducing the loss to follow-up of infants for whom further assessment is indicated. A statewide newborn hearing screening and intervention program. is defined as the screening of all newborns prior to hospital discharge, audiologic diagnosis before 3 months of age, enrollment in a program of early intervention before 6 months of age, and linkages to a medical home and family-to-family support for all infants with a hearing loss. The Resource Center will also support the development and implementation of physiologic hearing screening in Early Head Start and Head Start sites through training of, and targeted ongoing technical assistance to local Head Start staff to conduct the screening test and to refer infants and toddlers indicated followup.
