CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office has published a funding opportunity announcement entitled, “Strengthening the Blood Transfusion Services in the Republic of Mozambique under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).” Approximately $1,600,000 will be available in fiscal year 2010 to fund 1 award. The purpose of this announcement is to provide continued assistance to the Republic of Mozambique, Ministry of Health, national blood system (Servico Nacional de Sangue or SeNaS) to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply in the Republic of Mozambique. The initiative will involve large-scale prevention efforts, including the rapid establishment and strengthening of safe Blood Services. Prevention of medical transmission of HIV by blood which involves rational transfusion of blood that has been collected from regular, non-remunerated volunteers and appropriately tested based on a quality systems approach for the entire process.
