Improving uptake of Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) services through establishment of community based PMTCT programs in Nigeria Under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

Archived

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Description

The purpose of this program is to increase uptake and scale-up of PMTCT services. A major challenge to universal access to PMTCT remains, largely because of the inadequacy of service outlets offering comprehensive services and under-utilization of available PMTCT services at community level. Some of the barriers to optimizing uptake of PMTCT services are the HIV-related stigma and discrimination, the limited use of antenatal and postpartum services by pregnant women, and insufficient male and community involvement.
